Fortis - A Private School Building Tomorrow's Leaders

Fortis Academy is Billings, Montana’s first private school emphasizing leadership, classical education and whole-child education.

Old School is the New School

The classical method is a time-tested approach that has been called a “back-to-the-basics” movement, and its cornerstone is academic rigor. We teach French and Latin starting in the third grade as well as classical literature at all grade levels. We also draw upon many valuable insights into childhood cognitive and developmental processes realized in recent decades.

Every Child is a Leader

At Fortis Academy we believe all children are leaders and help them discover and develop their unique talents. Leadership training is woven into our culture, curriculum and everyday school life. The program is based on The Leader in Me, by Steven R. Covey, the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. This whole school transformation program is a three-year staff training and certification process.

Character and Values

We believe in educating the whole child, their spirit, mind, and body, and as part of that approach we aim to build character and reinforce positive values in our students. Students at our private school learn self-reliance, responsibility, initiative, creative problem solving, and teamwork. Through a community-based, student-led outreach program, students volunteer in the community and are involved in numerous charity and social service projects. Through this program, they learn compassion, empathy, kindness, and the joy of giving.

Parents, Our Partners

At Fortis Academy, we place strong emphasis on the relationship between the school and the home, recognizing the critical role of parents in fostering their children’s education. Above all else, we see ourselves as allies of the family, reinforcing, rather than undermining, parents’ efforts to guide the intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of their children.

As educational partners, we provide parents with many opportunities to become engaged in the Fortis Academy experience. Volunteering in a classroom, chaperoning a field trip, helping to organize a special event, or lending your expertise to grow our educational offerings are just a few of the options available. While those roles are important, we primarily expect parents to support their children in their studies, assist with homework, encourage setting lofty goals, and help them achieve them.

Structured for Achievement

Fortis Academy is committed to small class sizes, no more than 20 students per classroom. We combine classes to provide students with the opportunity to receive the extra help they may sometimes need, or to offer additional challenge for students who want to work ahead in their studies.

An Exceptional Experience

We believe that Fortis Academy is unlike any private school in our region,  as we are engaged in the restoration of a tradition that worked so well. We invite you to explore our approach further on our site or contact us today to receive additional information and arrange a tour of our campus.
