Are there any STEM schools near me?
Fortis Academy is excited to offer our new STEM school curriculum for Fall 2019.
What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. STEM education focuses on a practical, inter-disciplinary approach to teaching these subjects that makes them apply to the real world. A well-implemented STEM program increases interest and engagement in these crucial disciplines and improves STEM literacy in students. Learners are presented with opportunities to use science, technology, engineering and math to solve problems which don’t necessarily involve these subjects, encouraging a creative approach to applying these crucial skills in their daily lives.
Why is STEM Important?
Workers in STEM jobs are increasingly in demand, and are essential to the U.S. economy. STEM jobs are highly important to our continuing technological innovation, and STEM workers are responsible for many of the cutting-edge ideas and technologies that create future jobs and raise the living standards of U.S. households. Unfortunately, as the U.S. continually lags further behind the rest of the world in STEM education, recent years have seen increasing numbers of foreign STEM professionals needing to be granted work visas in order to meet demand.
The Fortis Difference
Fortis is excited to be integrating STEM curriculum into our classical- and leadership-based program. Today’s children are absolutely inundated by technology, and they’re increasingly pressured to buy into groupthink and follow the herd to wherever the ‘likes’ are. We’re convinced that our approach to STEM learning—blending principles of classical education with a modern approach to instruction—will yield a generation of learners who are inspired to take an ethical, leadership role in tomorrow’s information economy. We are committed to leveraging STEM instruction to deliver the best education in Billings.
STEM and Your Child
People always talk about how our ‘digital world’ is ‘increasingly connected’, but without qualifying or quantifying their terms. They’re agreeable statements because it’s easy to see that they’re true. Just how true, though, may be surprising:
- The number of internet users worldwide in 2019 is 4.388 billion, up 9.1% year-on-year.
- The number of social media users worldwide in 2019 is 3.484 billion, up 9% year-on-year.
- The number of mobile phone users in 2019 is 5.112 billion, up 2% year-on-year.

The fact is that today’s children are positively inundated by a never-ceasing barrage of information from an increasing number of sources. Additionally, they’re socially motivated to be more connected as a function of time to sources of information which are not well regulated. Recent history has certainly shown that anyone at all can use the unprecedented communication potential of our modern digital media to amplify whatever message they choose. The result is an age of increasing divisiveness and social isolation as communicators wage war for the hearts and minds of the online community.
The solution is STEM education. Fortis is committed to improving the science, technology, engineering and math literacy of our students. We’re convinced that our next generation needs to be empowered to use technology to properly evaluate the information they’re presented with and make well-reasoned decisions – to be educated, responsible consumers.
Structured for Achievement
Fortis Academy is committed to small class sizes, no more than 20 students per classroom. We combine classes to provide students with the opportunity to receive the extra help they may sometimes need, or to offer additional challenge for students who want to work ahead in their studies.
An Exceptional Experience
We believe that Fortis Academy is unlike any private school in our region, as we are engaged in the restoration of a tradition that worked so well. We invite you to explore our approach further on our site or contact us today to receive additional information and arrange a tour of our campus.
